Free motion was too hard to manage. I have seen a lot of positive review lately for the Juki and got to try both it and the babylock machine. If you are going to free motion or use the machine with a frame, the speed control is helpful. Not exactly great reasons, but that's my input, Big 4 Pattern size 12, RTW bottom: 6, RTW jacket 8, RTW top (no size fits me well!). One thing the Juki has over the Brother is the pretensioner before the tension dial. I have a Janome 6600 and the throat space is 8-3/4"...depending on needle position....and I make lots of quilts that are 100" x 100", doing either fmq or straight line quilting on my 6600 ....I have found that the biggest help for me is to find extra table space to the left of the needle to support the quilt (I use my ironing board or cutting table)....any time the quilt drags against the needle, the fmq is more difficult. I'd say try both if you can, but everyone I talk to loves their Juki 2010 and in my world there are way more Juki owners than Brother ones. If your budget will allow it, I would go with a machine that has a larger throat than those you've mentioned.
